Citroen Berlingo 550 LX L2 Electric

Overview

The Citroen Berlingo Electric is the same van as the Peugeot Partner Electric. They have a 22.5kWh battery pack, 3 seats up front and have DC rapid charging. This Berlingo is an L2 long body version, so it has a slightly larger cargo capacity of 3.7m3 (vs 3.3m3 of the L1 body) and a sliding side door on both sides. The van is a bright yellow colour and has only done 14,700 miles since new. Being zero emission, these vans are road tax exempt and London congestion zone and ULEZ exempt (but only after registering).

For full details of specifications and dimensions, refer to the Peugeot brochures below. The Partner & Berlingo electric van specifications remained unchanged from 2014-2020. Also see the Peugeot Partner Electric guide for information on specs, model changes and warranties.

Range

The range of a vehicle is dictated by the battery capacity, driving style and temperature. Just like a petrol or diesel vehicle,  range is reduced is you drive fast or uneconomically. For further details, see Range Explained.

The official (NEDC) range is 106 miles, but in real life this is typically around 80-90 miles in the summer, if driven economically. Range is reduced in winter to around 60-70 miles, but this does depend on the temperature and heating use.

The range you can achieve with a full battery (approx 20kWh) at different average driving economies is:

Charging

This van has both AC charging and DC rapid charging.  The rapid charging is via a 50kW Chademo port at the rear. Public rapid chargers are found in motorway service stations, petrol stations, IKEA, Lidl stores and some roadside locations. You get a charge (to 80%) in around 20-25 minutes.
The AC charging is via a type1 (J1772) port at the front, which charges at 3.6kW/16A. AC chargers are what you find in car parks, roadside locations, shopping centres, workplace and home wall chargers. At 3.6kWh, you'll add about 15 miles of range per hour of charging.
You can also charge from a standard 240V mains socket using a portable charger cable (often called a granny cable). These charge at 2.3kW/10A and add about 10 miles per hour of charging.
Charging would typically be overnight or top-ups between trips, when the van is not in use.

Charge times (from empty) are approx:

The van comes with a type1 to type 2 AC charge cable.

Battery

22.5kWh lithium-ion battery, of which around 20.5kWh is usable.  The battery is owned and has an 8 year manufacturer's warranty from new.
It is not possible to test the battery health on these vans as the battery management system does not report the state of health. However, these packs will typically last the life of the vehicle and only loose around 1% per year.
