Range
The range of a vehicle is dictated by the battery capacity, driving style and temperature. Just like a petrol or diesel vehicle, range is reduced is you drive fast or uneconomically. For further details, see Range Explained.
The official range is 127 miles on the NEDC test cycle and the manufacturer states a real world range of 120 miles with half a load (500kg) on board. Our own driving test has proven this is realistic in summer if driven efficiently (i.e. urban driving) and the same range is achievable when empty on a mix of roads including high speed.
As with all EVs, the range is reduced in the winter due to the cold. Typically cold winter range is around 20% lower, depending on heating use.
Charging
The EV80 has both AC (slow) charging and DC (rapid) charging. The charge ports are located on the side of the vehicle, just behind the driver's door.
When using a public DC rapid charger, the van will charge from 0-80% in 1.5 hours or to 100% in 2 hours. Charging is via a CCS socket and at a maximum charging rate of 30kW.
AC charging would typically be overnight or top-ups between trips, when the van is not in use. The 6.6kW type2 AC charger will add about 20 miles per hour of charging and a full charge will take around 8 hours.
A 10A portable charger (often called a 'granny cable') can also supplied - see portable charger loan for further information. When charging on a normal mains socket, you charge at a rate of about 9 miles per hour as this is limited to 10A/2.3kW.
Charge times (from empty) are approx:
1.5 hours to 80% on a CCS DC rapid charger
8 hours to 100% on a 7kW AC charger
24 hours to 100% on a 2.3kW portable charger
