Range

The range of a vehicle is dictated by the battery capacity, driving style and temperature. Just like a petrol or diesel vehicle, range is reduced is you drive fast or uneconomically. For further details, see Range Explained.

The official range (using the NEDC test cycle) is 174 miles. However in the real world, it is around 140 miles in the summer, but with efficient driving you can get more and some drivers have even achieved the NEDC figure with very careful driving. Range is always less in the winter due to colder temperatures and heating use and can be up to 20% less.

The range you can achieve with a full battery at different average driving economies is:

  • 6.0 mpkWh (super efficient city driving) = 168 miles

  • 5.5 mpkWh (efficient summer driving) = 154 miles

  • 4.5 mpkWh (average driving) = 126 miles

  • 4.0 mpkWh (efficient winter driving) = 112 miles

  • 3.5 mpkWh (very cold winter driving) = 98 miles

Charging

The Ioniq Electric has two charging ports behind the flap on the nearside rear wing, for both AC and DC charging.

The rapid charging is via a 69kW CCS port. Public rapid chargers are found in motorway service stations, petrol stations, some retail car parks and some roadside locations. You get a charge to flat to 80% in around 30 minutes.

The AC charging is via a type2 port, which charges at 6.6kW/29A. AC chargers are what you find in car parks, roadside locations, shopping centres, workplace and home wall chargers. You'll add about 28 miles of range per hour of charging.

You can also charge from a standard 240V mains socket using a portable charger cable (often called a granny cable). These charge at 2.3kW/10A and add about 10 miles per hour of charging.

Charge times (from empty) are approx:

  • 30 mins to 80% on a 50kW DC rapid charger

  • 4.5 hours to 100% on a 7kW AC charger

  • 12 hours to 100% on a 2.3kW portable charger

The car comes with the type2 to type2 charging cable for connection to a home wall charger or public charging post. Also included is a portable charger (granny cable) for charging from a standard mains socket.
