The range of a vehicle is dictated by the battery capacity, driving style and temperature. Just like a petrol or diesel vehicle, range is reduced is you drive fast or uneconomically. For further details, see Range Explained.
The official range (using the WLTP test cycle) is 193 miles. With most EVs, its near impossible to achieve the WLTP range with normal driving. However, the Ioniq is extremely efficient and you can easily exceed the WLTP range in the summer. Without even trying, we typically get 210-220 miles but with careful efficient driving, 250-260 miles is possible. There's videos on our YouTube channel demonstrating this.
Winter range is obviously less due to the heater use. But the Ioniq has an efficient heat pump, pre-conditioning, heated seats and steering wheel which all help to keep the range loss to a minimum.
The range you can achieve with a full battery at different average driving economies is:
6.5 mpkWh (super efficient city driving) = 247 miles
5.7 mpkWh (average summer driving) = 216 miles
5.0 mpkWh (efficient winter driving) = 190 miles
4.5 mpkWh (average winter driving) = 171 miles
4.0 mpkWh (very cold winter driving) = 152 miles
The Ioniq Electric has a CCS2 charge port on the nearside rear wing, which makes it suitable for charging on open Tesla Superchargers.
The Ioniq charges at 44kW on a DC rapid charger. You get a charge to flat to 80% in 47 minutes. Public rapid chargers are found in motorway services, petrol stations, some retail car parks and some roadside locations.
AC charging (type2 port) is at 7.2kW/28A. AC chargers are found in car parks, roadside locations, shopping centres, workplace and of course at home if you get a wall charger installed. You'll add about 28 miles of range per hour of charging.
You can also charge from a standard 240V mains socket using a portable charger cable (often called a granny cable). These charge at 2.3kW/10A and add about 10 miles per hour of charging.
Charge times (from empty) are approx:
47 mins to 80% on a 50kW DC rapid charger
6 hours to 100% using a 7kW AC charger
19 hours to 100% on a 2.3kW portable charger
The car comes with the type2 to type2 charging cable for connection to a home wall charger or public charging post. Also included is a portable charger (granny cable) for charging from a standard mains socket.
40.4kWh lithium-ion polymer battery, with a usable capacity of 38.3kWh. Battery is owned. The current battery state of health is still at 100% (tested on 18/09/2023).
The car is in great condition inside and out. Everything works as it should do without any faults. Watch the video above for a full review of the condition and study the photographs in the gallery.
